We are looking for a Product Owner – Dev Tools who is passionate about building internal software solutions and platforms that engineering teams and internal stakeholders love. This role will bring voice of the internal customer into the business, assessing and prioritizing opportunities to enhance our internal tooling, developer experience, and operational efficiency. The ideal candidate will possess strong technical acumen, be intellectually curious, adaptable, an excellent communicator and doer, and lead with confidence. The internal platform and tooling environment at Lightspeed is dynamic and fast-paced, requiring the Product group to be excellent at enrolling and motivating cross-functional teams to deliver to their Product vision and strategy.

What you’ll do

  • Collaborate with internal stakeholders (e.g., Engineering Leadership, DevOps, QA, Security, IT, Customer Success, and Customer Support) in the creation, maintenance, and communication of the product vision, strategy, and roadmap for internal platforms and tools. Represent the product in technical governance meetings and architecture reviews. Track and provide status to leadership. Perform discovery work to deeply understand technical pain points, developer workflows, and operational bottlenecks that internal products aim to solve.
  • Provide technical direction to Development teams via user stories, technical specifications, and epics. Lead backlog grooming, sprint, and release planning with a focus on technical feasibility, dependencies, and architectural considerations. Work closely with Engineering Leads and Architects to ensure solutions align with technical standards and infrastructure roadmaps.
  • Contribute to the generation of high-level release plans with engineering teams. Continually re-prioritize based on technical debt assessment, infrastructure needs, security requirements, and developer productivity impact. Develop and maintain the product delivery roadmap for internal platforms. Effectively communicate release contents, technical capabilities, system behavior, and migration paths to internal stakeholders.
  • Partner with Engineering enablement and documentation teams to develop internal training materials, technical documentation, runbooks, and adoption strategies for internal tools and platforms.
  • Create continuous feedback loops on internal products via usage analytics, developer surveys, incident analysis, support ticket trends, and other practices that drive continuous improvement, adoption, and developer satisfaction. Track key metrics such as developer productivity, platform reliability, mean time to resolution, and tool adoption rates.
  • Additionally, understand and articulate technical architecture, APIs, integrations, and infrastructure requirements to both technical and non-technical audiences. Champion developer experience and operational excellence, ensuring internal products reduce friction rather than create it.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree (or equivalent) in Product Design, Business Management, or Engineering (MBA preferred).
  • Exceptional writing and editing skills.
  • Ability to work on multiple projects in various stages simultaneously and make hard decisions to pivot priorities as ‘facts on the ground’ dictate.
  • Excellent teamwork skills and proven ability to influence cross-functionally and without formal authority.
  • Adept at managing and maintaining strong relationships with critical cross-functional business partners and third-party partners.
  • Proven success overseeing in a non-managerial role all elements of the product and software development lifecycle.
  • Familiarity with Agile framework and ability to effectively communicate complex processes within and across teams.
  • Track record of launching new products, driving excitement, and executional excellence across all parts of the organization.
  • Attention to detail, organizational planning, and documentation skills.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Certification in one of the Product Management frameworks (e.g., Pragmatic).
  • 3+ years associated with ERP, DMS, or similar systems.
  • Experience using Agile/Scrum methodology and/or workflow management tools for product development (Jira, Aha!, etc.).
  • Previous experience in Product Development or Product Marketing of a commercial software business.
