ENGINEERING MANAGER (Hybrid-URUGUAY)

In this role, you will provide leadership within a highly agile development environment, fostering a culture of continuous improvement and cross-functional teamwork. You’ll play a crucial part in aligning engineering efforts with company goals, guiding both front-end and back-end teams through all stages of the development lifecycle—from concept through production. The ideal
candidate brings a passion for mentorship, a strategic approach to problem-solving, and experience in an Agile setting, empowering their team to achieve excellence in both product quality and delivery.


What you’ll do:

  • Demonstrate ability to effectively manage people, including a clear understanding of team members’ roles, responsibilities, and skillsets.
  • Develop and maintain a strategic vision to ensure the team possesses the right skillsets and capabilities to meet current and future business needs.
  • Lead and manage a team of engineers through the technical design, implementation, testing, and deployment of Lightspeed software.
  • Build and implement efficient processes for managing projects and sprints.
  • Implement efficient testing processes to ensure continuous application/service quality and prevent regressions and disruptions.
  • Deliver scalable, resilient, high-availability applications and services running on robust deployment architectures with comprehensive health monitoring/alerting.
  • Maintain effective communication and collaboration with teams, both local and remote, in completing interdependent work items.
  • Maintain clear visibility of project/feature status to program management, product management, and other collaborators.
  • Attend to team morale; communicate effectively with team members to understand concerns and address them.
  • Enhance team efficiency, sprint velocity, and feature turnaround time while promoting a satisfying work-life balance.
  • Manage individual performance, employing ongoing performance feedback and mentorship.
  • Work with each team member

  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree, or equivalent professional experience.
  • 5+ years in a technical or leadership role, ideally in a software, product, or technical
  • environment.
  • Demonstrated experience in managing the complete product or service development
  • lifecycle, from initial planning through first release, with a focus on delivering projects on
  • schedule.
  • Strong knowledge of and experience using agile software development techniques.
  • Demonstrated success delivering large-scale, highly available web applications or services.
  • Excellent leadership and team management skills. 
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills, with fluency in English (verbal and written).
  • Live in Montevideo or close

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience working with and supporting JBoss/Wildfly Java application server.
  • Extensive experience in Java.
  • Experience with relational and NoSQL databases.
  • Experience with cloud-based service development, particularly using Amazon Web Services
  • (AWS).
