HEAD OF AI
ABIERTO As Head of AI, you will lead our team of AI Engineers and own the technical direction of AI. This is a hands-on leadership role. At the company, our managers are expected to lead people and processes while remaining close to the technology. You should be equally comfortable defining an AI architecture, writing production code, reviewing an evaluation framework, talking to a client, and helping an engineer grow. Your team will operate across three main areas:
- Client Projects: Design and build production AI systems for healthcare companies, working directly with clients and their stakeholders.
- Innovation Lab: Explore emerging technologies, rapidly prototype new ideas, validate use cases, and help turn promising experiments into products or new capabilities.
- AI-Native Engineering: Help evolve how the company builds software by developing our internal engineering harness, agentic workflows, routines, tools, and infrastructure that allow our teams to work more effectively with AI.
- Strong software engineering background with experience building and operating production systems.
- Deep practical experience building applications with LLMs and agentic architectures.
- Strong experience with LangGraph, LangChain, Langfuse, or comparable frameworks.
- Experience designing and implementing LLM evaluations and evaluation pipelines.
- Strong understanding of agentic AI, workflows, tool calling, RAG, structured outputs, context engineering, and graph-based architectures.
- Experience taking AI systems from prototype to production.
- Strong understanding of observability, reliability, latency, and cost considerations in production AI.
- Experience leading and developing engineers while remaining technically hands-on.
- Strong written and spoken English
You won’t just manage an AI team. You’ll help make AI a core capability of the company: building sophisticated AI products for our clients, experimenting with what comes next through our Innovation Lab, and transforming the way our own engineering organization builds software. We’re looking for someone who can lead the strategy, build the systems, develop the team, and still get their hands dirty.
