Responsibilities:

  • Provide best practices, automation, and support around modern database platforms such as RDS, PostgreSQL, and DynamoDB
  • Serve as a technical resource for developer teams, project managers, and analysts.
  • Work on a multi-disciplinary team of Database Reliability, Software, and Site Reliability Engineers
  • Collaborate with development and operations teams to quickly highlight and resolve problems with database systems
  • Participate in design reviews and work with developers to improve or troubleshoot database driven applications Work closely with security engineers to ensure database security is in accordance with compliance policies set by Client, HIPAA, or other authorities
  • Ensure appropriate documentation is developed and maintained relative to our database environments
  • The Senior Database Reliability Engineer is a critical role in maintaining and optimizing Clients’s data platform space, where data integrity, security, and performance all have a direct impact on the lives of cancer patients and their care.
  • The candidate should be willing to be on call as per following: The on-call rotation will consist of 3 members including the chosen candidate. The duration for each shift is 1 week for 24 hours a day. The shift switches over from one person to another at 10:00 a.m. every Wednesday. In the event of an availability conflict (ex. doctor appointment, vacation, etc) the on-call engineer is expected to work with the other engineers to find cover via swapping of hours or entire shifts.

Qualifications:

  • Experience with SQL Server: At least 5-7 years of strong experience with Microsoft SQL Server (or equivalent MySQL or PostgreSQL), especially in Windows Server environments with high availability via always-on and Windows Server failover cluster.
  • AWS Proficiency: At least 3-5 years of solid experience working with AWS EC2 instances for hosting databases.
  • Infrastructure as Code: At least 3-5 years of proficiency with Terraform and Ansible for provisioning and configuration management.
  • Scripting Skills: Must have the ability to troubleshoot .NET and Python tools with at least 3 years of experience; familiarity with PowerShell is required.
  • Problem-Solving: Demonstrated ability to diagnose and resolve complex database issues.
  • Security Knowledge: Understanding of compliance requirements, particularly with PHI data and HIPAA standards.
  • Team Collaboration: Ability to work effectively as part of a multi-disciplinary team, supporting developers, project managers, and analysts.
