LEAD ANDROID MOBILE DEVELOPER (Montevideo)

We are seeking a Lead Android Developer to guide the architecture, design, and technical evolution of customer -facing mobile applications. In this role, you will provide technical leadership across multiple teams, mentor senior developers, and partner closely with Product Management and Design leadership to deliver premium, scalable, and responsive experiences. You will apply deep expertise in Kotlin, Jetpack Compose, Coroutines, caching strategies, and event-driven programming to solve complex technical challenges and set the standard for mobile development across the organization.

How you will make a difference: 

  • Develop, enhance, and maintain Android applications using Kotlin, Jetpack Compose,Coroutines, and modern event-driven architectures

  • Design and implement efficient caching strategies to improve app performance, responsiveness, and offline reliability

  • Define architectural patterns and technical standards for Specialized’s Android applications, ensuring scalability, maintainability, and high performance

  • Mentor and guide senior developers, reviewing technical designs and code, and helping elevate team capabilities through coaching and feedback

  • Collaborate deeply with Product Managers, Designers, and Engineering leadership to translate business needs into technical strategies and solutions

  • Be a strong voice in technical planning, evaluating trade-offs, and making recommendations that influence product direction and system design

  • Design and implement advanced event-driven architectures and robust caching strategies to optimize performance and user experience

  • Analyze complex technical problems, propose scalable solutions, breakdown features into manageable tasks, and lead implementation efforts

  • Drive the adoption of modern frameworks and best practices such as Jetpack Compose,

  • Coroutines, MVVM, and modular architecture

  • Analyze and solve complex, ambiguous problems where conceptual thinking and independent judgment are required

  • Champion cross-team initiatives to improve development processes, shared tools, and mobile infrastructure, contributing to broader organizational goals

  • Represent mobile engineering in technical forums, providing thought leadership and aligning mobile strategies with Specialized’s overall business objectives

  • 12+ years of software development experience

  • 8+ years of Android Software Development

  • 3+ years of leading teams technically

  • Deep expertise in Kotlin, Jetpack Compose, Coroutines, and Android event-driven programming patterns

  • Strong architectural skills with a proven track record of designing modular, scalable, and efficient mobile systems

  • Hands-on experience implementing complex caching solutions to enhance performance and offline reliability

  • Proven ability to mentor and grow senior developers, provide technical leadership, and foster a culture of quality and innovation

  • Excellent collaboration and communication skills, able to influence and align diverse stakeholders across Product, Design, and Engineering

  • Demonstrated ability to work on significant, unique challenges requiring conceptual and strategic thinking

  • Recognized internally or externally as a subject matter expert in Android development or mobile architecture
